Doris Mumhofer is a German artist and designer. She lives and works in Bavaria, near Munich.
Mumhofer studied at the Weißensee Academy of Art in Berlin from 2014 to 2019 and worked in the fields of film, fashion and interior design. In her works, Mumhofer explores the interplay of different colors and shapes as an expression of emotions and formative moments.
Objects from nature and landscapes often provide the starting point for her motifs, for example the versatility of water or movements caused by wind.Impulsive, spontaneous hand movements on the canvas meet mostly calm and even backgrounds in restrained tones.
Her motifs often dissolve into a blur.
Mumhofer has been preoccupied with chance as an image-constituting moment since her studies, when she began experimenting with color gradients using water or other aids on a wide variety of surfaces such as canvas, cardboard or photographic paper. As they dry, the applied areas of color often take on new, unexpected forms and an interplay of calm and depth, intensity and dynamism is achieved. In addition to brushes, she also uses other tools such as palette knives, wooden wedges or spray bottles and works predominantly in acrylic. In addition to her abstract works, Mumhofer mainly paints portraits.
